Governor Dauda Lawal has commended the Joint Task Force for the renewed large-scale onslaught against bandits in Zamfara State. The military deployed more troops to Zamfara last weekend in its efforts to thwart the operations of bandits in volatile areas of the state. A statement by the spokesperson for the Zamfara Governor, Sulaiman Bala Idris, described the ongoing military onslaught as a necessary measure to disrupt the criminality of bandits in Zamfara. The statement sympathizes with communities affected by recent bandit attacks in volatile areas while also assuring full and continued support by the state government to the troops at the frontline. Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has again called for a review of the country’s revenue derivation formula in line with the practice of fiscal federalism. He queried the existing practice where resource-endowed states in Nigeria, particularly in the Niger Delta, get a paltry 13 per cent as monthly allocation from their resources. Governor Diri maintained that the country’s lopsided federalism practice had hindered the development of states. Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, has placed a N10 million bounty on the heads of the killers of two policemen in Enugu State, Friday night, saying the state would go after the culprits with every resource at its disposal to bring the killers to book.
