Enugu: UEL Alumni Storms The Lion Building, Honours Gov. Mbah, Condoles With Him On Late Mother In-law

Enugu State Governor; Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, was on Thursday, 13th September, 2023 paid a courtesy visit by a nine-man team, representing University of East London (UEL) United Kingdom Alumni Network, Nigeria, led by Engr. Ambrose Nwodoh (Alumnus of UEL), who significantly honoured him at the Lion Building (State House), with the presentation of a 'Congratulatory Plaque' and further decoration, with the 'UEL Lapel Pin', to signify oneness.

Following proper introduction of each Alumni Member in attendance, speaking on their behalf, Engr. Nwodoh, expressed profound admiration for the accelerated achievements attained so far by His Excellency within the first 100 days in office, in ensuring that each sector of the state is accorded premium attention, which enables the good people of Enugu State, habitual atmosphere for irrefutable growth, peace and stability.

He equally acknowledged that, their goodwill prayers were constantly with Gov. Mbah, in his endeavours, and likewise, the ongoing election petitions, for victory to manifest, center stage.

Responding, Gov. Mbah thanked the UEL Alumni for their kind familial gestures, while reminiscing the milestone of how he studied in the UEL; every activities he partook while in the school, and how he has always been zealously driven for business & leadership, heralding his successful career pathways in various capacities, till date, citing his now leadership role as The Executive Governor of Enugu State.

He enumerated some major projects his administration has mapped out for fulfilment, such as, designating of 300,000 hectares of land for agriculture, workings on Waste management, digitalization of State MDAs; from analog to digital platforms which will encompass all payments for the Government's Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), and the educational system from primary to secondary schools, in order to attract  investors to the State. The Governor hinted that several Smart Schools are planned across the State to cultivate the digital mindset and skills unto our children from primary school age. 

On the challenge of potable water across the state, he said, "so far we have built up the capacity to supply 25 million liters of water for Enugu every day. By the end of September, we will have about 75 million liters capacity and, on or before December 2023, we will be in position to surpass our daily requirement by reaching 100 million liters capacity that can serve Enugu metropolis while work is accelerated to provide potable water for the whole state."

Commending the Alumni members on their various fields of endeavour, Gov. Mbah urged them not to relent in exhibiting remarkable leadership traits whenever the need arises. 

He equally noted his intention to work with skilled and qualified individuals in the state and diaspora, to fulfill his mind-blowing aspirations for the citizens, hence, he indicated his interest, in working with the members, and requested they initiate an appropriate platform for this purpose. 

In response, the members thanked His Excellency for the privilege given, and equally extended their condolences over the demise of his mother-in-law; Late Mrs. Lolo Chinyere Lovelyn Mbah, whom they attended her funeral in Imo State, on the approval of His Excellency.

Generous warmth reception was observed in the both aforementioned outings by the Alumni members, and a smooth journey to and fro was equally recorded.

Governor's 'congratulatory plaque' and the 'UEL Lapel Pin', was handled by the group's Dr. Mrs. Nnesochi Nweze-Iloekwe, and Miss Elizabeth Paul, respectively. 

Alumni members also in attendance were Chinyere Ogbodo, Dr. Alex Akwaeze, Mr. Lawrence Chukwuma, Engr. Edozie Iloekwe, NwaIgwe Michael and Prof. Issa Abdulraheem, (Director University of Abuja Business School) who used the opportunity to present his new book titled 'Academic Entrepreneurship in Nigeria, A Book of Reading' to the Governor and invited all members of the Alumni Network to the book launch in Abuja which is slated for the 23rd September, 2023.
