Edo, Foundation, Private Sector Alliance Partner to Improve Primary Healthcare, Develop 18 Centres

The Edo State Government has sealed a deal with the AIG-Imoukhuede Foundation and the Private Health Sector Alliance of Nigeria towards building a resilient healthcare system in the State.

The collaboration will bring about the construction of 18 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across 18 councils of the state.

The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, represented by the Secretary to Edo State Government, Osarodion Ogie Esq., signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on behalf of the State Government, while Ofovwe Aig-Imokhuede and Dr. Tinuola Akinbolagbe, signed for Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation and the Private Health Alliance, respectively.

The collaboration is geared towards renovating and expanding the 18 primary healthcare facilities across the state to Level Three Primary Healthcare Centres.

In his remarks, Ogie said the agreement would boost the State Government’s initiative to build one primary healthcare facility in 192 wards across the state.

He said the ongoing rebuilding of the School of Health Technology would provide the needed manpower for primary healthcare centres in the state.

Ofovwe Aig-lmoukhuede said the Foundation would commit N2.3 billion over five years, with N1.8 billion earmarked for renovating selected PHCs in Edo State.

On her part, the Managing Director of Private Sector Health Alliance of Nigeria, Dr. Tinuola Akinbolagbe, said the intervention would provide quality healthcare services to people in rural areas and enhance quality of life in line with the vision of building a resilient health system.

The 18 primary healthcare centres are based on criteria such as availability of Basic Healthcare Provision Fund, water and power supply, medical staff and building condition.

In his remarks, the Executive Secretary, Edo State Primary Health Care Development Agency (EDSPHCDA), Dr. Omosigho Izedonmwen, expressed appreciation to the team for their generosity and commitment to this cause, adding, “Your willingness to partner with Edo reflects a shared vision of a healthier tomorrow.”
