Governor Kefas organizes retreat for newly elected Local Government Chairmen

The Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to good governance from the State to Local Government levels. 

The Governor stated this in Jalingo on 22nd November, 2023 while declaring open a three-day retreat organized for newly sworn-in council Chairmen, Local Government administrative officers, senior council officials, heads of development areas, and heads of Local Government administration.

Declaring the retreat for the new Local Government Chairmen in Taraba State open, the Governor of the state, Dr. Agbu Kefas, said it is a significant occasion to equip the Chairmen with the needed knowledge to succeed in their responsibility.

The Governor observed that the role of the Local Government Chairmen in driving good governance to the local level is very important to the development of the state.

Governor Agbu Kefas charged them to get ready for the tasks ahead as the progress of the state lies in their commitment at the local level. 

He stressed the need for the Local Government Chairmen to work in collaboration with the state, pay attention to innovation, and proper planning to ensure sustainable development.

The Governor said the theme of the retreat: "Towards a more effective and results-driven local governance in Taraba State" is a reminder to the Chairmen and stressed the need not to joke with the platform.

The Managing Director of Euclase Limited, the firm handling the programme, Major General Henry Ayamasaowei, thanked the Governor for giving them the task of equipping heads of Local Government Areas in the state for a result-oriented leadership.

Major General  Ayamasaowei said that at the end of the exercise the participants will be oriented on their duties as political leaders, and understand the shared responsibility between the three arms of government, among others.

The Permanent Secretary, Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Babangida Hassan, enjoined the participants to be attentive to derive the benefits of the programme.
