June 12: Nigeria Has Always Been A Careful Reminder Of The Struggles That Led To The Actualization Of Systems Of Govt – Gov. Okowa

Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, in his democracy day speech acknowledges the roles played by the advocates of today's democracy in Nigeria.

His speech:

Democracy Day in Nigeria has always been a careful reminder of the struggles that led to the actualization of systems of government - at the federal, state and local levels - that are of the people, by the people and for the people.

Today, as we commemorate its significance, on the anniversary of the annulment of the historic June 12th, 1993 elections, we must all reflect on the struggles that led to this victory. We must also remember the heroes that paved the way and paid the ultimate price to enshrine a ‘living system of government’ that ensures the constant and continued participation of everyday citizens in government.

As we move forward today with the observance of #DemocracyDay, it is my fervent hope and prayer, that we will always appreciate the many significant freedoms that we enjoy under this system of government, and always work to strengthen it in all our individual spheres of engagement.

Happy Democracy Day!
