Governor Agbu Kefas Inaugurates Committee Led by Former Governor Jolly Nyame

In his desire to expand the Government House in Jalingo, the Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has inaugurated a committee tasked with acquiring properties surrounding the premises.

The committee was officially inaugurated on Wednesday, 25th of June 2025, in the Exco Chamber of TY Danjuma House, Jalingo.

During the event, the Governor also received a report from the state delegation that recently travelled to Kenya for a study tour focused on tea and coffee production.

The purpose of establishing this committee is to facilitate the smooth expansion of the Government House, thereby improving administrative efficiency and enhancing security in the area.

In his speech, Dr. Agbu Kefas emphasised the importance of keeping the Government House, as the seat of power, free from congestion and encroachment, as such factors could undermine security.

Rather than relocating to acquire new land, the Governor stated that the government has decided to expand its existing premises. He mandated the committee to recover all government-owned properties in the vicinity of the Government House and ensure proper documentation.

Additionally, he instructed the committee to guide the peaceful acquisition of properties adjacent to the Government House. Dr. Kefas reassured that the initiative is not a witch hunt or a political tool but is driven by a commitment to progress. He urged the committee to work with integrity, ensuring that their efforts do not lead to harassment.

Regarding the report submitted by the 11-member committee that visited a Kenyan tea factory, the Governor disclosed that the First Lady of Nigeria has expressed interest in supporting the state to rebrand its highland tea to attract global attention. He affirmed that the submitted reports would be reviewed to reposition the state tea factory.

Earlier, the Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. John Kizito Bonzena, who led the committee, suggested developing the tea and coffee value chain, fostering strategic alliances and collaborations with Kenya and other countries to enhance the state's tea factory.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Recovery Committee, former Governor Rev. Jolly Nyame, expressed gratitude to the Governor for entrusting him with this assignment and pledged to carry out his duties with the utmost responsibility.
