Governor Agbu Kefas Participates in 6th & 7th Convocation Ceremony at Federal University Wukari, Affirms Commitment to Enforcing Minimum Teaching Standards

The Governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas has announced that in no distant future, his administration is going to implement minimum requirements for teaching in both primary and secondary schools to ensure that learners are guided by educators with solid academic qualifications.

Dr Agbu Kefas announced this while speaking at the 6th and 7th combined Convocation ceremony of the Federal University Wukari in Taraba State.

According to him, primary school teachers will be required to have a minimum qualification of a degree while a secondary school teacher will have at least a Master's degree among others.

In recognition of the significance of training and retraining teachers, the Governor explained that his administration is going to provide more training opportunities to ensure that Teachers remain updated and build their capabilities in the discharge of their duties.

He urged the graduates to consider the noble teaching profession and that their expertise can shape and add value to the education sector.

The Governor commended the Federal University Wukari for its dedication to knowledge delivery and the role it is playing in shaping the future of the young ones.

He said as a government, effort will be made to follow up with the federal government to ensure that laws establishing the University are properly put in place.

He then congratulated the three distinguished Nigerians for the honorary doctorate degrees awarded to them.

In his speech, the Vice Chancellor, of Federal University Wukari, Prof Jude Samani Rabo commended the dedication and commitment of the staff of the institution in equipping the graduands and equally enjoined them to strive to be beacons of hope in their respective societies putting into practice the knowledge gained.

The VC commended the support the institution received from the Taraba State Government under Governor Agbu Kefas including the donation of a General hospital which is now the University's teaching hospital, the donation of a piece of land, and funding of the convocation ceremony among others.

He said the three Nigerians who received honorary doctorate degrees, honoraris causa were based on their numerous contributions to the growth of the nation and the University.

Those Honoured with honorary doctorate degrees, honoraris causa include the Former Minister of Water Resources, Chief Obadiah Ando, the Aku Uka, His Royal Majesty Manu Ishaku Adda Ali, and the Former Secretary to the Government of the State, Barr Boss Mustafa.

Responding on behalf of the honorary degree recipients, the Former SGF, Boss Mustafa thanked the management of the University for approving their awards and said the honour bestowed on them is an additional responsibility to the growth and development of the University.

While promising to prioritize the interest of the University, Boss Mustafa urged the graduates to deploy their knowledge to assist the nation solve its pressing challenges.

Highlights of the occasion include the presentation of prizes and awards to some of the graduates who distinguished themselves in various fields.
