Gov Agbu Kefas Receives the Implementation Committee of Proposed Greenland University Jalingo

...Gives Assurance of Fixing the Education Sector for the Success of Free and Compulsory Education

The Governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas says in no distant time the state is going to overcome issues of infrastructural decay, shortage of facilities, and instructional material facing the educational sector to make free and compulsory education in the state a model.

The Governor was speaking this Tuesday at the Exco Chamber Government House, Jalingo when he received the implementation committee of the proposed Greenland University, Jalingo and a delegation of the National University Commission, NUC on a courtesy visit.

Represented by the Chief of Staff Government House, Dr Jeji Williams, the Governor reiterated his administration's commitment to the success of free and compulsory education to make it a model.

He warned stakeholders in the educational institutions in the state to guard against sabotage of government's good intentions on free and compulsory education and reduction of tuition fees of higher institutions, adding that the government will not condone any act of extortion that will undermine the policy.

The Governor assured that there is going to be a revolution in the education sector and urged the people to be patient as it is going to be a gradual process and assured that all needed facilities and structures will be fixed.

Speaking further, the Governor commended the establishment of the proposed Greenland University, Jalingo and urged them to create room for youths of the state in their activities.

The Chairman of the implementation committee of Greenland University, Prof Mustapha Baba Ibi said they were in the government house to inform the Governor about the delegation of the National University Commission NUC who were on an assessment tour of the proposed Greenland University, Jalingo.

He said the institution is going to complement the free and compulsory education policy of the state government by providing university education for the youth.

He added that the University will serve the state, and reduce crime and criminality and above all youth restiveness.
