Sustainable Agriculture: Ortom Encourages Cassava Farmers

Governor Samuel Ortom has charged Benue people to embark on massive cultivation of Cassava so as to benefit from its multipurpose usage.

He spoke during a courtesy call on him by the Federation of Benue State Akpu Dealers, Transporters, Potters, Multipurpose Cooperatives Union Limited.

The Governor identified the multipurpose use of Cassava for food and nonfood products, saying the demand for it continues to increase on a daily basis.

He charged the dealers to form viable cooperatives that could enable them access loans for the establishment of factories for the processing of cassava which he noted could easily be exported.
Governor Ortom commended the zeal and determination of the Akpu dealers stressing that his administration would give them the necessary support to achieve maximum result.

President of the union, Comrade Soso Ihyev, noted with delight, the resumption of full supply of Cassava in the state due to the ban on Open Grazing, pointing out that Cassava had been in short supply before the ranching law came into force.

Comrade Ihyev stated that Cassava has an all year round market and could rake in huge revenue for government if given the desired attention.

He pledged the support of members for the reelection of Governor Ortom in 2019.
In separate remarks, Mama Veronica Aondoakaa and elder Stephen Jov, charged Benue people to unite for their common interest, stressing that the Governor’s reelection would boost the welfare of the people of the state.

The union installed Governor Ortom as their Grand Patron, even as they also presented him with a portrait to signify their support for him.
