Rivers Police withdraws all personnel attached to Wike’s task force

The Rivers State Police Command has withdrawn all its personnel attached to the State Taskforce on Road Decongestion, Illegal Street Trading and Motor Parks set up by Governor Nyesom Wike. The officers were withdrawn after the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan, led other senior officers and men to visit the family of the late female Police Sergeant, Lovender Elekwachi, who was shot dead on duty at Eneka in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of the state. Spokesman of the Command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the development in an interview with newsmen at the command’s headquarters in Moscow Road, Port Harcourt. Omoni said that the withdrawal will enable the Commissioner of Police to adequately review the deployment before deploying any officer to such operation to avoid a repeat of what led to the untimely killing of the female police sergeant. MATAWALLE PARDONS 32 CORRECTIONAL CENTER INMATES

Governor Bello Mohammed (Matawallen Maradun) has granted pardon to 32 inmates of the Correctional Center in Gusau this morning. This is in addition to the earlier 22 he granted similar gesture on behalf of the Federal Government last week. Governor Matawalle granted the pardon in line with the international calls to decongest prisons and maintain social distancing at all times due to the ravaging spread of COVIDI-19. The Oyo State Government on Friday indicated that it might return the 1,800 bags of rice donated to the State by the Federal Government as COVID-19 palliative on the grounds that the rice had been infested with weevils. He was at the Adagbabiri boundary with Delta State and vehicles without the appropriate permit to be on the road were being stopped from entering Bayelsa. COVID-19 Lockdown: Inter-state travellers intercepted in Enugu, turned back

COVID-19: Bauchi Fumigates Yankari Games Reserve

By Admin Bauchi State Government has carried out fumigation of Yankari Game Reserve to prevent the spread of the novel Coronavirus The Acting General Manager, Mr. Mohammed Ladan, who supervised the fumigation exercise, on Thursday, thanked Governor Mohammed for taking proactive steps towards curtailing the spread of COVID19 in the state. Ladan, said the fumigation which was carried out by the State Environment Protection Agency (BASEPA), started from the main gate at Mainamajji to the second gate and right inside the Wikki base camp. “The excercise is to disinfect the entire environment to one square kilometre because we all know the havoc that COVID-19 is wrecking across the world. Places fumigated in the reserve include the administration block, the Central Mosque, Chapel, Amenity centre, Corporate Villa A and B, Guest Accommodation, Government Lodge, Bamako Activity Centre Restaurant, Musuem, Wikki Warm Spring, Conference Hall, Rangers Quarters, outdoor and indoor sports

COVID-19: Diri Converts Newly-Built Referral Hospital To Isolation Centre

By Admin Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has converted an 80-bed mother and child referral hospital built by Chevron Nigeria Limited and its partners to a temporary isolation centre in the fight against COVID-19. Senator Diri stated this on Thursday at the official handing over of the facility sited within the premises of the Bayelsa State Medical University to the State Government in Yenagoa. The Governor said that the conversion is aimed at tackling a more dreadful disease threatening the lives of everyone and not an attempt to deny the people of the state of other health services. He further stated that with the initial provision of the isolation wards at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital at Okolobiri to combat the virus and the new addition, the State was ready to tackle the pandemic in the event of any index case. Bauchi Governor bans Almajiri system, okada riders - Report

Mohammed, in a state wide broadcast on Thursday evening said that the old almajiri system was no longer tenable and healthy in the midst of the dreaded Coronavirus in the state. “The almajiri system which operates through the aggregation and congregation of hundreds of children who beg by the day and cluster in large numbers at night may accelerate the spread of Coronavirus," the Governor said. He said: “There is an agreement by the Northern Governors to ban the almajiri system in the region. The Almajiri system is hereby banned in the state," he added. Gov Umahi Declares Ebonyi Unsafe For Press, Bans Journalists

Correspondents of The Sun Newspaper, Chijioke Agwu, and Vanguard Newspaper, Peter Okutu, were on Wednesday banned from entering the Ebonyi State Government House or any government facility in the state. Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State, in a live broadcast on Wednesday, placed the ban on the the two journalists, declaring that Ebonyi people were very angry with the press and may “unleash mayhem” on them. He expressed his displeasure with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), for failing to discipline their members. The governor had earlier ordered the arrest of Agwu over a report he did on the Lassa Fever outbreak in the state. Within 72 hours, Okutu was arrested on the orders of Ohaukwu LGA Chairman, Clement Odah, over a report on the alleged military invasion of Umuogodoakpu-Ngbo community in the council area.
