The Enugu State Government, on Friday, flagged off comprehensive decontamination and fumigation of secondary schools in the state, ahead of resumption of academic activities. The exercise is being carried out by the State Fire Service, led by its Chief Fire Officer, Engr. Okwudiri Ohaa. It would be recalled that Enugu State Government, on March 24, 2020, closed all educational institutions in the state, as part of proactive measures to contain the spread of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19).  The state government directed all public officers/civil servants to work from home till further notice, except those on essential services, and has been paying them salaries, including the teachers, as and when due, since then. The initial budget bill of N242.1billion, which was signed into law in April this year, was on Monday reviewed downward to N183.1billion at a citizens participatory budget session. Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state has directed all civil servants in the state to resume work on Monday, August 3, 2020. The directive was contained in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya. In the statement, the state government advised returning civil servants to observe all Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) protocols for containment of the spread of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), “including hand washing with soap, use of alcohol-based hand sanitizer, compulsory use of face shield/mask and maintaining social distancing". It would be recalled that following the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, the Enugu State Government, directed all civil servants in the state to work from their homes since March 23, 2020, as part of measures to contain the spread of the viral disease. The state government has been paying salaries of civil servants, as and when due, since the lockdown.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has restated the commitment of his administration to the enhancement of the working conditions of judicial officers and indeed the entire Judicial arm of government. The governor stated this today while handing over another set of brand new vehicles to judges of the Abia State Judiciary.
