Enugu govt flags off decontamination of schools ahead of resumption - Report

The Enugu State Government, on Friday, flagged off comprehensive decontamination and fumigation of secondary schools in the state, ahead of resumption of academic activities. The exercise is being carried out by the State Fire Service, led by its Chief Fire Officer, Engr. Okwudiri Ohaa. It would be recalled that Enugu State Government, on March 24, 2020, closed all educational institutions in the state, as part of proactive measures to contain the spread of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19).  The state government directed all public officers/civil servants to work from home till further notice, except those on essential services, and has been paying them salaries, including the teachers, as and when due, since then.   The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has mourned the death of elder statesman and Afenifere leader, Pa Ayo Fasanmi, who died at age 94.   The governor, in a statement, said Senator Fasanmi was a grounded leader and thoroughbred politician, who was deeply committed to the welfare of his people and the development of the country.   According to him, “I received the sad news of the passing of Senator Ayo Fasanmi with a heavy heart. Civil society groups in Edo State have raised the alarm over the rising incidence of violence ahead of the September 19, 2020 gubernatorial election, alleging that the All Progressives Congress (APC), its sacked National Chairman, Comr. The budget, which was reduced by 30 percent from N179bn to N128.8 billion, was signed into law after the Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA), Rt. Hon. Bayelsa State Governor, Senator. Douye Diri, has given kudos to the state assembly for the expeditious passage of the revised 2020 appropriation bill. The initial budget bill of N242.1billion, which was signed into law in April this year, was on Monday reviewed downward to N183.1billion at a citizens participatory budget session. It was immediately sent to the assembly for consideration. Signing the revised bill into law on Wednesday evening in his office, Governor Diri noted the prompt attention given to it by the lawmakers. Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has today Wednesday signed 6 bills  presented to him by the leadership of the State House of Assembly.  The bills signed by the governor are; 2020 Revised Budget, Violence Against Person, Renaming  the College of Health Technology Ningi to Belinda and Gate College of Health Technology Ningi, renaming College of Nursing and Midwifery to Aliko Dangote. Enugu govt directs all state’s civil servants to resume work on August 3

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state has directed all civil servants in the state to resume work on Monday, August 3, 2020. The directive was contained in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya. In the statement, the state government advised returning civil servants to observe all Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) protocols for containment of the spread of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), “including hand washing with soap, use of alcohol-based hand sanitizer, compulsory use of face shield/mask and maintaining social distancing". It would be recalled that following the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, the Enugu State Government, directed all civil servants in the state to work from their homes since March 23, 2020, as part of measures to contain the spread of the viral disease. The state government has been paying salaries of civil servants, as and when due, since the lockdown.
