Drug Abuse Killing Our Youths, Says Gov. Diri

  ....UNODC, NDLEA Commend Bayelsa Effort Against Scourge Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has bemoaned the effect of drug use and abuse on Nigerian youths, saying it was destroying their future. Speaking at the Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall of the Government House, Yenagoa, during a Stakeholders Mega Sensitisation Campaign on Drug Abuse and Prevention, Governor Diri said the commitment of his administration to eradication of the scourge was premised on its adverse effect on the society. A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, on Wednesday, quoted the governor as expressing the readiness of his administration to make the state free of drug abuse. Governor Emmanuel Swears In Justice Ekaette Obot As Acting Chief Judge

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, Wednesday morning, swore in Justice Ekaette Francesca Fabian Obot as the Acting Chief Judge of the State, taking over from retired Justice Godwin Abraham. At a memorable event held in the state Executive Council chambers, Governor Emmanuel reiterated his stands on gender equality and merit. While commending Justice Ekaette Obot for a good record of effective discharge of her duties, the Governor explained that her selection as acting Chief Judge was strictly on merit. "Let me congratulate the newly sworn in acting Chief Judge, don't ask how the selection process came ,she has served the state so well. "It's a good thing and I don't have any doubt that she will do so well, you know women are really struggling and should be given a chance in the society. AKSG Distributes 100,000 Oil Palm Seedlings To Farmers

In another move to boost the cultivation of cash crops in the state, the Akwa Ibom State Government has distributed over 100,000 oil palm seedlings to farmers across the 31 Local Government Areas.  Few days ago, Governor Udom Emmanuel empowered Cocoa farmers across the state with over 700,000 cocoa seedlings, knapsack sprayers, agrochemicals and cash support. The oil palm seedlings were distributed on Tuesday, at Government Nursery Farm, Itak Ikot Udo, in Ikot Ekpene LGA. Governor Samuel Ortom says Benue State will reject the planned review of the Land Use Act by the Federal Government with vehemence as it is meant to grab land for open grazing, cattle routes and grazing reserves. Governor Ortom spoke yesterday when he received the Assistant Commandant General, ACG Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC Zone H, Haliru Usman at the Benue Peoples House Makurdi.
