Northwest Governors Storm Zamfara, as Gov. Dauda Lawal Unveils Community Protection Guards (CPG)

 The Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, hosted the Northwest Governors for the official unveiling of the State Community Protection Guards (CPG). The graduation ceremony for the Community Protection Guards (Askarawan Zamfara) was held on Wednesday at the Trade Fair Complex in the capital city of Gusau. A statement issued by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, revealed that Governors from Jigawa, Kebbi, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina and Sokoto attended the graduation ceremony. He added that the Zamfara State Government is utilising a multi-faceted and multi-dimensional approach to address security challenges for now and in the future. “Last year, Governor Dauda Lawal approved the engagement of 5,200 guards across 14 Local Government Areas. Fuel Subsidy Removal: Obaseki Extends Free Bus Service to April

 The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has approved the extension of the free bus scheme implemented by the state government to April 2024. The free transport scheme was introduced in September 2023 for an initial two-month period to cushion the effect of the fuel subsidy removal by the Federal Government on the people of the State. Following the success of the first phase which benefited over 1.5m Edo people, the Governor thereafter extended the palliative programme till February 2024. The free transport scheme covers all intra and intercity routes operated by the State-owned Edo City Transport Services (ECTS), including Auchi – Igarra – Ibillo–Ososo; Uzebba–Ikhin – Otuo, and Abudu-Ubiaja, Abudu-Urhonigbe and Ewohimi to Ewatto. The Chairman, Edo Taskforce on Internally Generated Revenue, Hon. John Osagie Inegbedion, disclosed this at a press briefing after the 2024 EIRS Management Performance Review (MPR), in Benin City, the Edo State capital. Inegbedion said the 2023 IGR, driven by the State’s formal sector, stood at N62billion, noting that the N17bn growth by Edo State in 2023 accounts for the combined revenue generation performance for 12 States in 2022. Governor Dauda Lawal has declared a state of emergency in the health sector of Zamfara with a commitment to revamping the state's healthcare system. In a state-wide broadcast on Tuesday, the Governor lamented the disturbing conditions of the hospitals across Zamfara. A statement by the Spokesperson of the Governor, Sulaiman Bala Idris, disclosed that the declaration came after the Governor's unscheduled visit to Gusau's General Hospital. According to him, the hospitals urgently needed intervention due to the poor state of facilities, equipment and the workers. As a result, a state of emergency was declared in the sector. Governor Fintiri who expressed concern over the existence of the fake Twitter account with the handle @AhamduFintiri, described it as a deceptive ploy by unscrupulous individuals to spread misleading information. “My attention has been drawn to a fake Twitter handle @AhamduFintiri created by unscrupulous persons to misinform unsuspecting members of the public,” Governor Fintiri stated.
