Gov. Diri Hosts Southern Ijaw LGA PDP Leaders, Elders

... Reassures Southern Ijaw people of his commitment to complete the Yenagoa-Oporoma-Ukubie road

... Calls for political tolerance, harmony amongst stakeholders


Senator Douye Diri, Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, today hosted leaders and elders of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area at Government House, Yenagoa.

The Governor expressed his happiness and appreciation to the leaders and elders for the visit.

The Governor said:" I would start by thanking God for His mercies and enablement that throughout the electoral season there was nothing untoward in Southern Ijaw LGA; for giving us the understanding, strength and protection throughout the campaigns and elections.

I want to appreciate the leaders, elders and people of Southern Ijaw LGA for coming to celebrate our victory and wishing me a Happy New Year. I thank you for the encomiums you have poured on our government.


We know the priority of Southern Ijaw people. We know it is the road. That is why we have continued to pay much attention to it. The Oporoma bridge construction is at an advanced stage. We are very sure that in our second tenure that bridge will be completed at record time. And Oporoma the headquarters of Southern Ijaw LGA will be connected by road. If anybody doubts us, we will put them to shame.

My dear people of Southern Ijaw, let us do what is right. Let us be tolerant. Let us recognize everybody. Let us desist from blackmails and pulling down syndrome. We need to assist each other to grow. There is none of us that is perfect. Leadership is not by the most educated or richest. Let us work and put ourselves together. Let us be our brothers keeper.

Moving forward, I know you will also improve on the election result in Southern Ijaw LGA. I thank you for using your intelligence and strategy to overcome those who believed in guns. You were able to mobilize your people to vote and support our government."

In his remarks, the leader of the delegation and Southern Ijaw PDP Caucus Chairman, Rt. Hon. Talford Ongolo, said they came to congratulate and felicitate with the Governor on his electoral victory and wish him a happy new year. 

He equally appreciated the Governor for his special consideration for Southern Ijaw LGA in terms of key appointments and projects. 

Hon. Ongolo, assured the Governor of the continued support of Southern Ijaw people for his administration.

Other dignitaries at the meeting include Senator Moses Cleopas, the Leader of Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Monday Bubou Obolo, Member representing Southern Ijaw Constituency Three, Hon. Moses Marlon, Member representing Southern Ijaw Constituency One, Hon. Felix Bonny Ayah, Secretary to the State Government, Alabo Gideon Ekeuwei, Acting Chief of Staff, Dr. Peter Akpe, Commissioners, CTC Chairman of Southern Ijaw LGA, Mr. Lucky Okodeh, and other top government and party officials.
