Adamawa Empowers 400 Agricultural Cooperative Societies

Adamawa State Government has empowered 400 agricultural cooperative societies as plan to improve food security in the state

Speaking at tje event, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri said government had in 2023 empowered 5000 people as government realized the importance of cooperative societies to tje development of societies.

Represented by his Deputy, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, the Governor said food insecurity breeds all forms of vices and criminality, hence the empowerment by government to foster sustainable development and prosperity in agricultural sector.

He stressed that empowering 400 cooperative societies who are into dry season farming is a testament of the present administration's dedication to farmers.


He reaffirmed that the programme aligns with the vision for a robust, self sufficient and resilient agricultural sector as well as the Eight point agenda of the fresh are administration.

The Governor thereafter, encouraged the beneficiaries to embrace the opportunity for growth and innovation to guarantee a flourishing, sustainable and prosperous farming community, adding that government is working towards ensuring lasting peace between farmers and herders for agricultural activities to thrive.


The Commissioner for Entrepreneurship Development, James Iliya, had earlier emphasized that the importance of dry season farming can not be overemphasized for it is a pillar of ensuring food security, income generation, and sustainable development.

Having acknowledged the looming challenges of change in weather pattern, he calls for shift in perspective and approach towards agriculture from a traditional practice to a dynamic and thriving businesses.

Mr. James Iliya, Commissioner for Entrepreneur, said 400 agricultural cooperative societies totalling 4000 cooperatives members are empowered with 645 items such as Urea, N.P.K, Sprayer, improved seeds, water pumps, herbicides among others.

The president, Cooperative Professionals, Japhet Wakili who, spoke  on behalf of the benefitting societies thanked Governor Fintiri for the gesture, pledging their cooperation and support for a better Adamawa.

It could be recalled that in February 2023, 492 agricultural cooperative societies, totalling about 5000 members were empowered.
