Michika/Madagali Reconnected To National Grid As Fintiri Commissions Power Sub-Station


Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has officially commissioned the rehabilitated power sub-station for Michika and Madagali Local Government aryeas which gulped ₦283.8m.

The local government areas have been without electricity after Boko Haram insurgents damaged power lines and installations which cut off power supply from the national grid subjecting the people to a total blackout for over six years.

Speaking at the ceremony that held in Michika town on Tuesday, Governor Umaru Fintiri revealed that the electricity project covers major towns of Baza, Watu, Michika Shuwa, Gulak and Madagali in the northern part of the state.

The governor maintained that developing rural communities remained the priority of his administration so as to enable people at the grassroot contribute their quota to national development.

Governor Umaru Fintiri urged the people in the two local government areas to take full advantage of the electricity by engaging in commercial activities that will improve their income and livelihood.

He stressed that government will not tolerate the activities of economic saboteurs, who vandalize public property and electrical installations, and appealed to people to be vigilant to government projects.

In his remark, the Commissioner for Rural Infrastructure and Community Development, Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu Prambe, noted that the electricity project covers the areas that were cut off with power by Boko Haram terrorists since 2014.

Alhaji Prambe thanked the state government for the support to the ministry towards implementing the rehabilitation work of the network from Michika to Madagali and rehabilitation of 7.5MBA 33/11 KB power transformer at Michika.

Contributing, the Zonal Managing Director of Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC), Mr. Baba Umaru Mustafa, declared that plans are also on the pipeline to improve power voltage in Mubi and environs that have been experiencing low voltage.

He called on electricity consumers in Michika and Madagali Local Governments to ensure payment of electricity bill as and when due and urged the people to take full responsibility of safeguarding the facilities for the benefit of the larger society.

Highlight of the event was presentation of cultural dances.
