... As Govs Hold Emergency Meeting This Week

The nine governors of the oil producing states, yesterday rejected the list of members of the board of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) sent to the Senate by President Muhammadu Buhari.

President had yesterday, in his letter to the National Assembly, requested the Senate to consider and confirm the appointment of Dr Pius Odubu (Edo state) as Chairman and Mr Bernard O Okumagba (Delta) as Managing Director board of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

Other members of the board are Engr. Otobong Ndem (Akwa Ibom) Executive Director Projects, Maxwell Oko (Bayelsa) Executive Director Finance and Admin,Prophet Jones Erue ( Delta) Delta Rep, Chief Victor Ekhator( Edo), Edo Rep, Dr Joy Yimebe Nunieh ( Rivers) Rivers Rep, Nwogu N. Nwogu( Abia), Abia Rep, Victor Antai(Akwa Ibom) Akwa Ibom Rep. and Theodore A. Allison.

Others include; Maurice Effiwatt (Cross Rivers) Cross Rivers Rep, Olugbenga Edema (Ondo) Ondo Rep, Hon Uchegbu Chidiebere Kyrian (Imo) IMO Rep, Aisha Murtala Muhammed (Kano) North-West Rep, Shuaibu Ardo Zubairu (Adamawa) North-East Rep and Amb. Abdullahi M Bage (Nasarawa) North-Central).

Buhari, in his letter dated October 18, 2019 and addressed to the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, requested the Senate to consider and confirm the nominees.

Rejecting the list sent by President Muhammadu Buhari to the Senate, the governors, it was gathered, had said that the President had in their last meeting promised consulting them (the governor), before taking any action on the issue.

The oil producing state governors are that of Abia, Imo, Rivers, Delta, Cross Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Edo, Ondo and Bayelsa states.

A source close to the governors said that the governors, would hold an emergency meeting this week to address the issue and also meet with their senators.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party South South Youth Vanguard has also condemned the list of the board members.

The youths, in a statement by its National Chairman, James Efe Akpofure condemned the list, adding, "we are not sure if the letter was signed by the President."
