Bayelsa State is undergoing a sports revolution in Nigeria, so says Governor Douye Diri.
The Bayelsa helmsman stated this while receiving the State female football team, Bayelsa Queens, and the Commonwealth Games athletes at the 88th State Executive Council Meeting, in Government House, Yenagoa.
Bayelsa Queens came out as champions at the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) zone B championship in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast.
The Governor also received athletics sensation, Timma Godbless and Table Tennis rising star, Samuel Boboye, for winning laurels at international meets recently.
The Governor said players of Bayelsa Queens, Commonwealth Games and other athletes have made Nigeria and the State proud by their sterling performances in their different respect, hence, splashed cash gifts on them.
"We are indeed very proud of you. You went out representing not only our state but Nigeria. You left no one in doubt that you are truly representing Nigeria. The people of Bayelsa are holding their heads high because of your sterling performances, continue on that path. Success is difficult to sustain, people are already planning to overthrow you."
"We followed you, particularly Bayelsa Queens, I spoke with you and made promises already fulfilled. You have done us proud, your State Government will make every necessary arrangement for your travel and sustenance in Morocco. We appreciate you on behalf of the government and the people of our state. Go to Morocco and conquer and if you deliver my pronouncement will be more than what I will do today."
"Because you have made us proud, you will receive an additional N10 million Naira."
"For our commonwealth medalist, we thank you for making Bayelsa and Nigeria proud. We will continue to encourage you in the best way we can, that is the only way you can return to impact value on your state."
"For the Commonwealth Games gold medalist, you will receive a N2.5million, a silver medalist, N1.5 million, and a bronze N1million."

"World athletes championship relay gold winner, Timma Godbless gets N700,000.00. African Youth table tennis champion, gets N500,000.00."
"And for all of them who participated, a uniform sum of Three hundred thousand Naira will be given to them," Governor Diri stated.
