Governor Fintiri Swears In 8 New Permanent Secretaries
The role of Permanent secretary is crucial, as they are responsible for managing government ministries and ensuring that policies are implemented effectively.
Today, Friday, May 26th, 2023, Governor Ahmadu Umaru, today, Friday swore in 8 new permanent secretaries who were recently appointed in the Civil Service at the Banquet Hall in the Government House, Yola.
During the ceremony, the Governor reminded the appointees of their new responsibilities and urged them to be honest, transparent, accountable, shun corruption, and steer the civil service push towards positive results.
The Governor noted that his administration instituted an exam to select only the best permanent secretaries for effective service delivery. This move was a deliberate attempt to eliminate nepotism and parochial tendencies in the system, saying the government under his watch has been promoting civil servants based on their hard work.
He congratulated the appointees for passing the rigorous exam process conducted by the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) in Badagry, Lagos, which specializes in improving the skills and knowledge of public servants, in areas such as leadership development, strategic management, project management, and public sector reform.
Mr. Musa Abbas Kiri, speaking on behalf of the newly sworn-in permanent secretaries, thanked the Governor for appointing them, saying "to whom much is given, much is expected," and assured him of their unwavering support and dedication.
He commended Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s leadership style for focusing on maintaining high standards of excellence and upholding the rule of law in a system where individuals from all backgrounds are given equal opportunities to succeed and where meritocracy is valued over nepotism or favouritism.
The State Head of Civil Service, Dr. Edgar Amos Sunday, who welcomed the newly appointed permanent secretaries for oath taking, took time to go over their biographies.
The new permanent secretaries were sworn in by the State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Afraimu Jingi.
The permanent secretaries are Muktar Aminu Tukur from Yola South, Gwandi Joefrey Rifkatu from Yola North, Musa Abbas Kiri from Shelleng, Bagumi Alfred Henry from Numan, Mohammed Hamman from Mubi South, Daniel Silvester Jailani from Jada, Amos Pribu Enoch from Guyuk, and Dr. Celym Laori from Demsa.
