Gov. Diri Receives Opu-Nembe Council of Chiefs In Govt House
... harps on peaceful coexistence in Opu-Nembe Kingdom
... sympathizes with people of Opu-Nembe over the loss of lives
His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State today received the Amanyanabo of Opu-Nembe Kingdom, HRM King Biobelemoye Josiah and his Council of Chiefs at the Government House, Yenagoa.
In a remark, Governor Diri warned those perpetrating crisis in Opu-Nembe to desist forthwith as government would no longer condone such acts.
"I do not doubt in my mind, that we still have some vestiges of challenges arising from the chieftaincy election that have been concluded long ago. Let me also sympathize with you, first for the loss of lives in your kingdom, the accident of your Chairman and several attacks in Opu-Nembe.
And I like to again warn, that we will not fold our hands and watch any individual or a group of individuals rock the peace and security that we all enjoy today in Bayelsa State. All parts of Bayelsa and all Local Governments of Bayelsa remain peaceful and secure. There must be that feeling of security, not insecurity and that's the only way we can develop as a State and as a people.
I hereby direct the Deputy Governor who is in charge of chieftaincy affairs to move into the Nembe seaming crisis. Investigate into it and co-opt members as he will deem fit including the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy to give me a report in two weeks of what is still going on in Nembe, Opu-Nembe in particular.
The Bayelsa State government will continue to work with security agencies, Federal and State. And our job is to ensure the peace and security of lives and properties in Opu-Nembe and indeed the whole of Bayelsa State.
My dear Chiefs and leaders of Opu-Nembe, it's time we take our destiny into our hands. Nobody can develop you more than you develop yourself. If you can't bring peace, peace will continue to elude you. You have to first be at peace with yourself and you can be at peace with others."~His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State speaking during when Opu-Nembe Council of Chiefs, led by HRH, King Biobelemoye J. Josiah, Ogbodo VIII, Amayanabo of Opu-Nembe Kingdom, paid him a courtesy visit in Govt.House, Yenagoa.
