Tambuwal’s Inaugural At NGF Ushers AfSNET Second Conference

Hours after Gov. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State formally took over the reins of leadership of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), the second conference of the African sub-Sovereign Network (AfSNET) was held in Abuja.

The conference declared open with a keynote address by President Muhammadu Buhari,

established the AfSNET institutional framework, defined its membership and introduced sub-sovereign governments to financing instruments, initiatives, products and programmes that can facilitate trade and investment.

The theme of the conference organized by the African Export Import AFREXIM  Bank in collaboration with the NGF and held at the State House Banquet Hall, Abuja  was: Africa’s sub-Sovereign Governments Network  Championing Africa’s Development.

It is aimed at creating “a platform that promotes peer learning,cooperation and collaboration among sub-sovereign governments to boost intra-African trade, investment, industrialization and development,” notes a conference document.

Governors under the aegis of the NGF along with other senior officials from 160 sub-sovereign entities drawn from over ten African countries attended the conference. Among them was the Sokoto State Commissioner for Commerce and Industries, Hon. Bashir Godado Jegawa.

Other participants were drawn from the private sector, potential investors, financial institutions and development partners.
