RESPECT CULTURE, TRADITIONS OF HOST COMMUNITIES - UMAHI TELLS MIYETTI ALLAH

The  chairman of the South East Governor's Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State Engr David Nweze Umahi has called on herdsmen operating in the zone to always respect the culture and traditions of their host communities to foster unity and understanding.

He  made the call while declaring open South East Security summit held in Enugu.

The summit which was organized by the South East Governor's Forum in collaboration with South East chamber of commerce, Industry,  mines and Agriculture is aimed at achieving effective policing of the South East zone for improved business environment.

The Governor who was represented by the Deputy Governor Dr Kelechi Igwe said though insecurity has remained a national problem,  leaders at all  levels should evolve strategies that will improve security of lives and property across the country.

He said his administration has consistently interacted with the national body of the miyetti Allah to brainstorm on how to a.create and sustain a robust relationship that would maintain peace and appealed to other Governors in the zone to adopt the same approach.

The Governor expressed optimism that the outcome of the summit would generate further national discourse to address the problem of insecurity, while encouraging the participants to make effective use of the knowledge gained from the summit.

In a keynote address,  a commissioner,  Human Rights,  Police Service Commission,  Mr Rommy Mom observed that in recent years the  country and South East have been confronted with security issues bordering on kidnapping,  Armed Robbery, and Herdsmen attacks which he said had impacted negatively on the  business environment.

Mr Mom advocated for the recruitment of at least 50,000 police officers on annual basis to ensure effective policing of different parts of the country,  adding that security agents should be more equipped with arms,  ammunition and technology to perform better.

The commissioner in charge Of South East zone in the police service commission,  Dr. Nkemka Jombo-Offor said the objective of the summit was to identify the effects of insecurity in the business environment and profer  lasting solution  as well as draw a road map for the establishment of security Trust Fund in the zone
