Benue To Train Civil Servants Yearly To Enhance Performance - Ortom
Benue State government will henceforth carry out yearly training of civil servants to enhance performance, capacity building and service delivery.
Governor Samuel Ortom announced this Wednesday, February 9th, 2022 when he granted audience to representatives of the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria, ASCON in his office.
The training is to be carried out by ASCON Lagos.
The Governor while appreciating the team for coming to build the capacity of Benue State, the civil servants which he described as the engine room of the state, stressed that it would have been difficult to take 500 civil servants to Lagos for training.
According to him, "the civil servants will begin to show their talents which will make things work based on the training they have received'
Earlier in a remark, Mr Jonathan Audu, leader of the ASCON delegation expressed appreciation to the Governor for giving them the opportunity to train senior officers in the state.
Audu particularly thanked Governor Ortom for the conducive environment and warm reception, praying that God should continue to protect and bless the state with more resources to enable the Governor implement all the laudable projects he had outlined for the people of the state.
He explained that ASCON is a foremost management development institute in Nigeria saying that "It has the mandate to provide management techniques and equip our senior public servants with relevant skills for performance improvement.
"We want to commend you for the leadership role and human capital development. We assure you that, it is the way to go because infrastructural development without commensurate human capital development will lead to unsustainable outcomes"
"We identify with your human capital development initiatives. ASCON as an institution is willing to support this initiatives.
Particularly, Audu commended Governor Ortom for his "commitment to train 500 people in one fell swoop is a huge investment that must be commended. That is the right way, because if you don't train them, don't blame them"
In the management circle, we always said that, " hard time provide opportunities for us to train staff. It is only capable hands that bring organisations out of the woods."
Mr Audu therefore requested for more patronage by the state government to enable them develop curriculum for the state's development centre.
An award of excellence was also presented to the Governor by the TiV community at ASCON.
