For the Second Time, Sokoto Garners Ease of Doing Business Award Under Tambuwal

For the second time in a row, Sokoto State came tops in the sub national ease of doing business ranking.

The first time was in 2021/2022, when it clinched the second position; while this time it bagged the third position. The awards were received by Hon. Bashir Gidado and Hon. Yusuf Hausawa: the state Commissioners of Sports and Youths Development and his Industry, Trade and Investment Hausawa counterpart: Hon. Bashir Gidado and Hon. Yusuf Hausawa, respectively.

These milestones, according to Gidado and Hausawa were possible as a result of the deliberate policies and programmes of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal's administration in the state.

“Some of the initiatives include but are not limited to: domesticating the Ease of Doing Business Reforms program of the Federal Government, establishment of Sokoto One-Stop Shop for Business registration, which permits processing licencing, taxation, land administration, and advisory services,” the Commissioners stated.

Others are the “establishment of SOGIS (Sokoto Geographic Information System) for automated land administration, enhancement and digitisation of the state’s Board of Internal Revenue Service to ensure electronic/cashless collections, the proposed establishment of Small Claims Court state, which is at advanced stage; and participation in SABER (State Action on Business Enabling Reforms) of the World Bank, they added.

According to the Commissioners, Governor Tambuwal, “in order to demonstrate good leadership in the execution of this program, chairs the State Steering Committee for the Ease of Doing Business Program.

Governor Tambuwal also graced the occasion briefly and left to attend the meeting of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF).
