Late Justice Kate Abiri: Gov. Diri participates in funeral activities
His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State Wednesday attended the Service of Songs in honour of retired Bayelsa State Chief Judge, Justice Kate Abiri and described her as an epitome of peace.
The service of songs was held at the Greater Evangelism World Crusade, District headquarters Church, Opolo, Yenagoa.
"I call her my sister, my Lord and my adviser. She was not just a Chief Judge who swore me in as Governor of Bayelsa State, she has sworn in four of us, one in Rivers State and three of us here in Bayelsa State", he stated.
Justice Abiri who died on Thursday, 3rd of August, 2023 aged 65, is Bayelsa's longest serving Chief Judge, who served between 2008 and 2023, and swore in four Governors, three from Bayelsa and one from Rivers State.
Earlier today, the Governor also participated in the special valedictory plenary session held in honour of the late immediate past Chief Judge of Bayelsa State, Hon. Justice Kate Abiri.
Governor Diri alongside his wife, Dr. (Mrs.) Gloria Diri, the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, led other top government functionaries to the emotion-laden plenary which was held at the High Court complex in Yenagoa.
Other dignitaries at the session included Senators representing Bayelsa West and Central at the Nigerian Senate, Rt.Hon Henry Seriake Dickson, immediate past Governor of the State and Rt.Hon. Benson Konbowei respectively, members representing Sagbama-Ekeremor, Yenagoa-Kolokuma and Nembe-Brass Federal Constituencies in the Green Chambers, Hon. Fred Agbedi, Hon. Oforji Oboku and Hon. Marie Ebikake.
The former Deputy Governor, Gboribiogha John Jonah, members of the State Executive Council and other top Government functionaries were also in attendance.
