Two Years of Purposeful Leadership: Evaluating Governor Agbu Kefas’ Performance in Taraba State

 By Henry Agbu

As Governor Agbu Kefas marks two years in office, the people of Taraba State stand at a crucial juncture—reflecting on a leadership style that blends vision, ambition, and a passion for transformation, from bold education reforms to energy breakthroughs and cultural revival.

Education remains one of Governor Kefas’ most visible success stories. Under his watch, Taraba has implemented a free education policy that has significantly boosted enrollment across primary and secondary schools. In addition to tuition-free learning, the state has distributed instructional materials, renovated dilapidated schools, and introduced digital literacy programmes. Over 100 young people have already benefited from ICT training and computer donations.

Agriculture, long the heartbeat of Taraba’s economy, received a much-needed lifeline through strategic investments. With the acquisition of 750 mini-tractors and international partnerships aimed at mechanizing farming, rural communities now see a future that blends tradition with modernity. These efforts reflect the Governor’s promise to not only ensure food security but also create wealth for farming households.

Rather than chase new headlines with fresh projects, Governor Kefas has focused on completing critical abandoned ones. From water storage facilities in Jalingo to the long-overdue renovation of the state’s liaison office in Abuja, his commitment to continuity is refreshing. The Danbaba Suntai Airport, once forgotten, is undergoing rehabilitation to improve domestic connectivity and boost economic activity.

The construction of Taraba’s first teaching hospital in Wukari marks a giant leap in the state’s health and education sectors. This dual-purpose facility is poised to serve both as a training ground for medical students and a lifeline for residents in need of quality healthcare. It’s a landmark that speaks volumes of an administration thinking long-term.

In 2024, the governor signed the Taraba State Electricity Law, positioning the state to take charge of its energy future. Hydropower projects are underway with international partners, intending to make Taraba a net energy exporter. In a time of national power instability, this move is both visionary and pragmatic.

Beyond infrastructure and policy, Governor Kefas has not ignored the soul of Taraba—its culture. The revival of the iconic Nwonyo Fishing Festival drew national attention and rejuvenated pride in the state’s heritage. Events like these promote unity, tourism, and cultural preservation.

Two years in, Governor Agbu Kefas has delivered a blend of reform, infrastructure, and people-focused leadership.

His administration may still face criticism and challenges, but it cannot be denied that the wind of change is sweeping through Taraba.

For a state long in search of purposeful governance, these two years offer not just results—but renewed hope in the moving forward agenda.

As Governor Agbu Kefas clocked two years in office, let's roll out our drums, celebrate, and keep supporting him.

Congratulations our amiable Governor!
