Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has advised Yobe State students to shun drug abuse, indecent dressing and take up trades that will make them self reliant.
The Governor, made this call at the graduation of 175 women trained by National Union of Yobe State Students (NUYOSS) in Damaturu.
Governor Buni, who was represented by his deputy, Alhaji Idi Barde Gubana, said the State Government will continue to improve in education and socioeconomic development for the youths to be self employed.
The policies of the government will continue to tackle youth restiveness through agricultural initiatives and entrepreneurship.
He commended the sponsors of the training for making a strategic move that will relieve government of employment burden.
Buni also appealed to the beneficiaries to make best use of the equipment provided to them and take full advantage of the skills they learnt.
The chairperson, Women Affairs Committee of NUYOSS, Hafsat Yusuf Ibrahim, said that the programme was supported by Northeast Youth Initiative for Development (NEYIF).
She said that the initiative was introduced to eradicate poverty among the educated and non educated, married and single, in the society.
"This would enable them generate income independently without relying on government for white collar job", she said.
She also called on government to intervene and support the committee with financial support to train more beneficiaries to reduce street begging and hawking by women within the society.
Also, the Managing Director of NEYIF, Dauda Muhammad Gombe, said the programme is targeting 10,000 women that are between the ages of 15-25 in Yobe, Borno, and Adamawa States.
