As Water Shortage Affects Sallah Bash, Tambuwal Pledges To Investigate N114m Provision

As Muslims in Sokoto state celebrate Eid-el-Kabir those in some areas of the metropolis had to cope with problem of water  supply, a situation which prompted the state government to respond swiftly by resolving to look into the matter.

Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state expressed displeasure over the issue on Saturday while paying the traditional sallah homage to the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar at his palace in the state capital.

According to him, only this week his administration provided N114 million to the state water board for it to tackle the issue.

He said he is surprised that the problem still persist, thus his decision that the state government will investigate what went wrong.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Tambuwal who thanked the Sultanate Council for its role in preaching peace in the state and country in general, urged politicians to play politics with decorum as the next election season approaches.

He assured them that the state government is doing its best in order to ensure that every eligible person will be registered and possess his Personal Voters’ Card (PVC).

On the condition of the state contingents to this year’s Hajj, Tambuwal said he is contact with the Amirul Hajj with whom he spoke on Friday while the pilgrims were at Muzdalifa and got assurance that all were hale and hearty.

Turning to the security situation in the state, the Governor said his administration, in collaboration with the security agencies and other stakeholders, is doing it best, just as he urges people of the state to desist from politicizing the issue of security and religion.


In his response, Sultan Abubakar commended Governor Tambuwal and his cabinet for their effort in executing various developmental projects and ensuring that peace and peaceful coexistence continue to subsist in the state.

The Sultan also urged leaders of all shades in the state and beyond to be always just and fair to their subjects; while also calling on the people  to fear Allah in all their dealings.


He expressed appreciated to the state government for always seeking advise from the council for the development of the state, emphasizing that the council will continue to give useful advises for such ventures.

He applauded the effort of the state government and security agencies in maintaining peace in the state, assuring that the Sultanate will to continue  to give its maximum cooperation in tackling the problem.
