All is now set for the hosting of the maiden edition of Akwa Ibom State Education Summit, tagged Human Capacity Development for Sustainable Transformation of Persons and Society"
and scheduled for Thursday 5th through Friday 6th of September, 2019 at Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio Auditorium, Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo .
The Summit is targeted at creating an environment for developing the minds of Akwa Ibom people to enable them assimilate the various developmental programmes and projects of the state administration in the education sector.
Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, stated this during his interaction with Government House Correspondents at his office.
He emphasised that education plays a sustainable role in the transformation of a given society, adding that the state government cannot afford to toy with the human capacity development of it citizens, hence the convocation of the summit to chat a way forward for the education sector in the state development.
The SSG called on relevant stakeholders to contribute to the success of the summit, adding that the summit will address not just academic issues but achieve a holistic ethical and attitudinal reorientation.
Dr Ekuwem commended Governor Udom Emmanuel for attracting numerous developmental programmes to the State by putting in place several requisite infrastructures that would necessitate economic boom and urged stakeholders in the education sector to reciprocate the gesture by providing requisite manpower and physical expertise to drive the socioeconomic revolution as spearheaded by the present administration.
Ekuwem noted that the Governor is passionate with the next generation of Akwa Ibom people hence his commitment to the sustainability of the development matrix in the state and training the right human resources to drive his vision.
“No development is sustainable without the right men and women to drive it. And these right men and women will be nurtured and groomed in the classroom. The purpose and substance of this summit is therefore to seek ways of transforming the classroom", the SSG said.
He explained that the summit will, among other things, avail government the opportunity to review and examine the content and quality of teachers, the learning environment and educate parents on implication of productive parenting which would enable them reposition young Akwa Ibomites to contribute to the socioeconomic development of the state
The summit, according to Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, would go beyond the traditional convergence of teachers at the State capital to enact education policies to targeting the grassroots and far away rural Akwa Ibom communities.
This, he explained, informed the inclusion of traditional rulers, religious leaders and Chairmen of Local Government Areas as well as plans for subsequent phases of the summit to be held at local government level to achieve a multiplier effect of what will be achieved at the state level.
The SSG was flanked by Commissioner of Education Professor Nse Essien , Commissioner of Information Mr Charles Udoh, Commissioner of Science and Technology Dr Iniobong Essien, Chairman State Universal Basic Education Professor Maria Ikrok, Senior Special Assistant on Education Monitoring Mrs Idongesit Etiebet , SSA on Youth Matters Comrade Aniefiok Iwa Udofia, Traditional Rulers, Chairman Ethical And Attitudinal Reorientation Commission Dr. Dorothy Thompson, among others.
