Gov. Bello Mohammed Matawalle has shown determination to improve the welfare of the State Civil servants in order to develop the State and make the service more attractive.
The Governor made this known when he received the leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), under the Chairmanship of Comrade Bashir Mohammed Mafara, who paid him a courtesy call at his personal residence in Gusau.
Governor Matawalle said that his administration will continue to give priority to the improvement of the State civil servants' welfare through the payment of all entitlements and allowances meant for the civil servants in the State.
He said that all entitlements will be paid at the right time in order to boost the State civil servants' morale and give them a sense of belonging in discharging their responsibilities diligently.
He further said that training and retraining of the civil servants and on the job training will be reintroduced so that the schedule of duties and responsibilities can be achieved.
Matawalle also said that his administration is looking at the possibility of establishing a State and Local Government Pensions Commission in order to end the suffering of the pensioners in the State.
He stressed that when the commission is established, the laws will restrict the total abuse of the pensions fund, as was done by the immediate past administration.
The Governor wondered why Governor Yari will pay himself his gratuity of 350 Million Naira from the 2 billion Naira he approved for the payments of pensioners in the State, leaving aged pensioners dying, which he described as inhumane.
Matawalle said that he is very saddened with that, that is why he is trying to make laws that will safeguard and protect all the pensioners rights and entitlements.
He also promised to continue to allocate N100m every month for the payment of gratuity and other pension benefits to the State civil servants until all the liabilities are settled.
Earlier in his address, the State NLC Chairman, Comrade Bashir Mohammed Mafara, said that they were at the Governor's residence to congratulate him for the good start of his administration especially in the improvement of civil servants' welfare through the payment of leave grant and gratuity within the period of just two months of his administration.
The Comrade further said that the leadership of NLC, Zamfara State branch, wish to identify with the laudable achievements so far recorded in the area of security of lives and properties of the citizenry.
He said that the 34 unions under the NLC umbrella are in support of the peace process initiated by the Governor and will continue to support it until lasting peace is achieved in the State.
The courtesy call was attended by the State Head of Service, Alhaji Kabiru Balarabe (Sardaunan Dan-Isa) and the Labour Executives in the State.
