Taraba Governor Addresses Concerns Over Deputy Governor’s Absence

Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has appealed for understanding and compassion over the prolonged absence of the state’s Deputy Governor, who has been battling ill health for several months.

In a statewide address on Monday, Governor Kefas acknowledged public concerns about the vacancy in the office but stressed that the matter should be viewed from a human, rather than political, perspective.

“Our Deputy Governor fell ill while serving Taraba State faithfully and on official duty. This is not a political matter—it is a human one,” Kefas said, recalling his military background and the value of esprit de corps, where colleagues stand by each other in times of need.

Quoting both the Holy Bible and the Holy Qur’an, the Governor urged citizens to support the ailing Deputy Governor and his family through prayers and moral solidarity. He said leadership should be defined by humanity before politics.

He assured residents that constitutional provisions have been followed and pledged to act in line with the law if circumstances necessitate a formal decision regarding the office.

“For now, our duty is clear—to care, to support, and to let compassion lead us,” Kefas stated.

The Governor’s remarks come amid growing discussions in the media and among citizens about the Deputy Governor’s prolonged absence from public functions.
