Governor Bello Muhammed Matawallen Maradun, Barden Hausa, Shettiman Sokoto today gave two months ultimatum to recalcitrant bandits within which to embrace the peace process of his Administration and surrender their weapons to the Government or face severe consequences.
The Governor issued the order in a special statewide Broadcast on the security situation and new measures being taken by government and aimed at Defeating banditry in the state.
Governor Bello Matawalle also announced a ban on the conveyance of more than one passenger on a motorcycle with immediate effect in all parts of the state.
He said the measure was necessary and a further push to bring to an end the activities of the recalcitrant bandits so as to bring lasting peace to the state.
The Shettiman Sokoto warned all political actors to desist from any act capable of truncating the state's security, and directed security agencies to monitor the activities of all political actors and take appropriate action against the violators.
He directed Traditional rulers and local Government councils sole Administrators to always remain in their domains and monitor the influx of any suspicious characters.
Governor Bello Matawalle expressed dismay with the persistent activities of some local vigilante groups (Yansakai) despite the banning of such groups, pointing out that the order still remains in force.
While appreciating the efforts of journalists working in the state and media practitioners as a whole for their committment in reporting security issues, Governor Bello Matawalle observed with dismay the activities of some few media organisations in promoting fake news, causing psychological trauma and panic among people of the state. He therefore called on such media organisations that published or air news or opinions concerning the security situation in the state to always cross check their stories and balance their reports before going to press.
