 By Mazi Uchenna Nwafor

The Adamawa State governor, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has on Monday 16th December, 2024 presented his 2025 Budget Estimate to the State House of Assembly.

The Governor submitted a N486 billion estimated spending plan for 2025 fiscal year, with one hundred percent above the previous year, tagged; “Budget of Service”.

Analyzing the 486 billion Naira budget finance; Recurrent Expenditure is just 28.23% with only N137 billion, whereas the Capital Expenditure took a whooping 71.77% of the budget totaling N348 billion for capital project.

This budget is an indication of a governor that wants to build, develop infrastructure and prosper the state in line with the 8-Point-Agenda of his second term.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri's 486 billion Naira budget has been heralded as a transformative blueprint aimed at delivering substantial service to the state. This ambitious fiscal plan is strategically crafted to address critical sectors of the state economy such as education, agriculture, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic development, which are pivotal for the state's growth and prosperity.

By prioritizing these areas, the budget seeks to enhance the quality of life for residents, stimulate job creation, and foster sustainable development.

Governor Fintiri's administration appears committed to transparency and accountability, ensuring that funds are judiciously allocated and managed to achieve the desired outcomes. In essence, this budget reflects a forward-thinking approach designed to pave the way for a thriving and resilient state.

Opening up new roads and rehabilitating old ones for ease of movement and business, hence his allocation of N88 billion for road construction in both urban and rural areas of the state, to improve transport network within the state and inter-states.

Indeed, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri's 486 billion Naira 2025 budget, often referred to as a "budget of service," marks a significant commitment to the development and prosperity of Adamawa State.

Unlike most National and Nigerian state budgets, where recurrent takes more that 80% of budget, Fintiri has decided to prioritize infrastructural development to create job and boost economic growth of the state.

My Submission:

“Building infrastructure plays a crucial role in facilitating economic activity, which in turn enhances the circulation of money and bolsters business growth. Governor Fintiri’s investment on infrastructure such as roads, bridges, public transportation, and markets, is a move that supports efficient movement of people, goods and services, improved connectivity, reduces transportation costs, shortens delivery times, and opens up markets, making it easier for businesses to operate and expand.

This budget is also intended to create jobs, both in the short-term during construction and in the long term by attracting businesses to well-connected areas.

As a result, increased employment opportunities, leading to higher purchasing power and consumer spending, further stimulating the economy. The overall, infrastructure investment in this “Budget of Service”, is a catalyst for economic development, fostering a thriving business environment and ensuring a dynamic flow of money through the economy.”

This ambitious financial plan of Governor Ahmadu Umari Fintiri, is strategically allocated to address key areas of the economy, aiming to improve the quality of life for its citizensBy prioritizing critical sectors, the budget seeks to create a sustainable environment that fosters job creation, enhances access to basic services, and elevates the overall standard of living of the good people of Adamawa State.

Furthermore, Governor Fintiri's administration has emphasized transparency and accountability in the disbursement of funds to ensure that the budget's objectives are met effectively. Through this budget, the state government aspires to pave the way for a more prosperous and equitable future for all residents of the State.
