Governor Umo Eno Condoles Family and Delta State Government on the Passing of Chief Edwin Clark
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, has sent his heartfelt condolences to the family, Delta State Government, and political associates of the prominent Niger Delta leader, Chief Edwin Clark, whose passing at 97 was announced earlier Tuesday morning.
In a message of condolence released by his Chief Press Secretary, Ekerete Udoh, Governor Eno described the late one-time Federal Commissioner for Information under the regime of General Yakubu Gowon and foremost Niger Delta leader as a nationalist and an unrepentant, if not unapologetic, believer in the rights of the Niger Delta people to function within the larger Nigerian socio-political space in peace and harmony, given the huge economic contributions the region makes to the growth and development of our dear nation.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Akwa Ibom State, we received the sad and unfortunate passing of our father and leader, the late Chief Edwin Clark, at 97 years."
“You were a nationalist of extraordinary proportions, who also was passionately dedicated to the issues and concerns of the Niger Delta people as the resource belt of our nation."
“You articulated the issues of the Niger Delta people without being confrontational but with the force of your personality, intellect, and power of persuasion."
“Today, because of your advocacy through various bodies such as the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), there is relative peace in our region."
“We will miss your leadership, but we take solace in the great and enduring works you did and the structures of positive engagement you helped establish, which are available today in our region."
“We pray God to grant your family, the Government and people of Delta State, the larger Niger Delta, and indeed the nation, the fortitude to bear this loss."
May your soul rest in peace. Amen.”
