The Peoples Democratic Party Governors' Forum (PDP-GF) has called for the decentralisation of Nigerias  security architecture by the creation of state police, pointing out that such will help stem the tide of the recurring security challenges bedevilling the country.

The PDP-GF, under the chairmanship of Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, has equally appealed to the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify efforts in tackling the nation's security challenges.

The PDP Governors made the call in Jos, Plateau State during a solidarity visit to the Governor of the State, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang over the recent unfortunate incidents that claimed many lives and properties in the state.

The PDP-GF, which donated N100m to victims of violent attacks in the State, said, “We want to urge the Federal Government to reconsider the establishment of state police as a crucial step to address the prevailing security challenges across the country,”.

The Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, while speaking at a meeting with an audience that comprised the leadership of the party, PDP, led by its chairman, Hon. Chris Hassan, members of the State Executive Council, stakeholders and gentlemen of the press, commiserated with the people of Plateau State and also extend their  heartfelt condolences to them.

According to Senator Mohammed, "We, representing the PDP Governors’ Forum, commiserate with you and the people of Plateau State and also extend our heartfelt condolences over the recent unfortunate incidents that claimed many lives and properties.

"We have confidence in Governor Mutfwang’s ability to address the security challenges with wisdom and courage.”

“The crisis is unfortunate, and we urge you to remain focused amidst these challenges", he said.

In its usual manner of always lending support to initiatives targeted at bringing lasting solutions, enduring peace and security, the PDP-GF, as a gesture of solidarity, donated the sum of One Hundred Million (N100m) only to help alleviate the sufferings of the victims of this conflict.

Governor Mutfwang, in his response, expressed gratitude for the support and committed to fostering unity across faith and ethnicity on the Plateau.

Mutfwang stressed the importance of rebuilding trust and unity among all and sundry to effectively combat armed banditry, terrorism, and criminal activities in the country.

"As governor, I believe in the unity of our people. If we rebuild trust and treat criminality uniformly, we can overcome these challenges"

“We must do our best to rebuild trust and hope among our people; criminality should not be treated with levity,” he admonished.
