PDP Governors' Forum Urges Collaborative Efforts to Tackle Nigeria's Challenges

At the conclusion of their meeting in Abuja on Monday, February 12th, 2024, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors' Forum, under the leadership of H.E Governor Bala Mohammed, CON, addressed pressing issues affecting Nigeria.


The Forum expressed concern over the economic and security hardships faced by Nigerians, urging urgent collaborative efforts between the Federal Government and subnational governments to find lasting solutions. Emphasizing the need for state police, they stressed the importance of safeguards to prevent abuse of power.

Additionally, the Forum highlighted the devaluation of the Naira and called on monetary and fiscal authorities to devise appropriate remedies. They also reaffirmed their commitment to revitalizing the PDP, positioning it as a formidable opposition party.

The meeting concluded with a vote of confidence in the Iliya Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP, urging the initiation of meetings for party organs from Caucus to National Executive Committee (NEC).

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE MEETING OF PDP GOVERNORS’ FORUM HELD IN ABUJA ON MONDAY, 12TH FEBRUARY 2024.

The PDP Governors’ Forum held a meeting under the leadership of H.E Governor Bala Mohammed, CON, at the Oyo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja on Monday, 12th February 2024.

2. The meeting deliberated on various issues of interest and concern to the Forum, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the country and issued the following Communiqué:

i. The meeting reviewed the State of the Nation and noted the hardship being faced by Nigerians as a result of the economic and security challenges facing the nation. The Forum consequently urges the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency embark on initiatives involving all the sub national governments to bring a lasting solution to the crises. The PDP Governors will continue to play their part in the effort to bring security and succour to our people.

ii. To this end, we reiterate our call for State Police with appropriate safeguards to avoid any abuse or overreach by any tier of government.

iii. The Forum decried the falling value of the Naira and requested the monetary and fiscal authorities to find appropriate solutions.

iv. The meeting further reviewed recent developments in the Peoples Democratic Party and  committed to leading efforts to revamp and reposition the party to serve as an effective opposition to the ruling Party in Nigeria.

v. Furthermore, the Forum passed a vote of confidence in the Iliya Damagum led National Working Committee (NWC) of the Party and urged it to put in motion the machinery for convening meetings of the appropriate organs of the party – from Caucus to National Executive Committee (NEC) as soon as possible.
