Enugu State Governor, Barrister Peter Mbah, Extends Wage Award Indefinitely and Clears Pension Backlog

In a resounding display of commitment to the welfare of Enugu State's civil servants, Governor (Barrister) Peter Mbah has announced the indefinite extension of the 35,000 Naira wage award. Speaking at a town hall meeting held at the old Government Lodge in Enugu, Governor Mbah highlighted his administration's accomplishments and outlined future plans spanning various sectors including healthcare, education, infrastructure, and social welfare.

During the engaging session, Governor Mbah reaffirmed his dedication to providing good governance, emphasizing his administration's focus on infrastructure development, healthcare enhancement, education reform, social welfare initiatives, and bolstering security measures across the state.

Highlighting specific initiatives, the Governor revealed plans to enact the National Disability Act at the state level and establish a commission to address the needs of Persons Living with Disabilities. In education, he announced the commencement of construction for smart schools in 160 out of 260 wards, with plans for full operationalization by 2025, alongside a commitment to providing 12 years of compulsory and free education supplemented with digital equipment for every child in Enugu State.

Governor Mbah also addressed healthcare improvements, highlighting the ongoing construction of type 2 primary healthcare centers in every ward and major market, as well as the revitalization of state-owned nursing schools to accommodate over 3,000 nursing students. Regarding infrastructure, he outlined progress on urban road construction and reiterated plans for continuous road development across all political wards.

Furthermore, the Governor clarified misconceptions regarding tax policies, emphasizing an expansion of the tax net rather than an increase in tax rates, aimed at ensuring all businesses contribute their fair share.

In a significant move towards ensuring the welfare of workers, especially retirees, Governor Mbah announced the clearance of state pension arrears and initiated payments for Local Government and primary teachers' pensions following the harmonization of audit reports.

The town hall meeting, attended by representatives from various sectors including civil society organizations, women, students, youths, business owners, traders, transport unions, people living with disabilities, and traditional rulers, concluded with commendations for the Governor's achievements thus far and anticipation for the promising initiatives ahead.
