Governor Bala Pardons 96 Inmates Incarcerated for Assorted Transgressions

...Implores them to be law abiding citizens 

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has granted amnesty to 96 inmates incarcerated for assorted infractions, imploring them to be law-abiding citizens and engage in legitimate endeavours by taking advantage of the various empowerment windows provided to them by his administration so as to become self employed and useful to themselves and the larger society.

Mohammed was speaking during his interaction with the Bauchi State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy where he announced that the pardon has been provided by section 212(1) of the Nigeria's 1999 Constitution to relieve inmates of stress and trauma associated with being in jail.
He said a total number of 99 inmates serving various jail terms at correctional centres across the state have been forgiven as the the decision has been taken after a careful study of their records by the committee who confirmed the remorsefulness of the inmates.
Governor Bala added that he has increased the amount his administration has been giving to those that are pardoned from 50,000 to 100,000 considering the hardship, announcing the approval of seven million naira as the payment for fines among others.
He implored judges to expedite dispensation of justice to avert prison congestions, assuring them of his continued support to ease their assignments.

In their separate remarks, Comptroller, Nigeria Correctional Service, Bauchi State Command, Ali Bajoga, Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa among others, commended Mohammed for his foresight, calling on the pardoned inmates to reciprocate the gesture by living up to expectations.
