Governor Mutfwang Hosts British High Commissioner, Seeks Collaboration in Agriculture and Peace Building

Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has announced his administration's intent to partner with the British Government to enhance the educational sector and establish lasting peace in the state.

The Governor made this known during a courtesy visit by the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr. Richard Montgomery, at the new Government House in Little Rayfield, Jos, on Monday.

Governor Mutfwang said he was honoured to host the British delegation, recalling the history of Jos as a favored city for Europeans in the 1960s and 70s, because of the hospitality and temperate climate of the state.

Governor Mutfwang said as part of deliberate efforts to restore peace and forge greater unity in the state, his administration has appointed the Director General of the Plateau State Peace Building Agency and revitalized Operation Rainbow, the state's security outfit.

The Governor voiced his commitment to improving the livelihoods of Plateau State people through good governance and strategic partnerships aimed at fostering development and growth.

Dr. Richard Montgomery, in turn, expressed appreciation for the warm reception and outlined his itinerary, which includes visits to notable institutions such as the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), the National Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI) in Vom, and the IDP camp in Barkin-Ladi LGA.

The British Government, Dr. Montgomery affirmed, is keen on supporting peace and prosperity in Nigeria, particularly in Plateau State, with a willingness to contribute to agricultural development and security training initiatives.

Offering condolences for the December 2023 security incident, the High Commissioner pledged the UK's support in aiding the Plateau State Government's peacebuilding and prosperity efforts.
