Mothering Sunday: Gov. Diri salutes Bayelsa women, describes mothers as home builders
Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, Sunday, joined worshippers at the St. Peter's Anglican Church, Sampou to observe the Mother's Day.
Governor Diri, who joined in the thanksgiving by the mothers at the service appreciated them for holding the home side strong to nurture the children in the way of the Lord.
Describing mothers as inspiring and industrious who go the extra mile to ensure that there is food in the house, Governor Diri, appreciated them for being resilient and accommodating.
The Governor, noted that the importance of mothers as home builders cannot be over-emphasised and enjoined them to continue to instill the right morals into the children in-line with the Biblical injunctions.
He encouraged mothers to continue being role models to their children, noting that the reward is not only beneficial to the society but also to the parents.
His words, “Just a few days ago was International Women’s Day and today Sunday, is set aside as Mother’s Day. We are all here to celebrate our mothers, to recognize and acknowledge our mothers who are resilient and accommodating. In addition to all of these qualities, Bayelsa mothers are the most beautiful and very elegant. So I want to salute you on behalf of your Government and the people of the State. Continue to bring up our children in the way of the Lord, the reward is beneficial to society and to you as parents", Gov. Diri said.
The Bishop of the Northern Izon Diocese of the Anglican Communion, Funkuro Amgbare, in his sermon encouraged mothers to continue to instill discipline in their children and provide support to their husbands.
Among those who accompanied the Governor to the service were the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, Leader of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Monday Bubou Obolo, former Secretary to the State Government and Chairman, Governing Council, Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ambassador Boladei Igali, former Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Kemela Okara, General Eric Angaye, and other top government functionaries.
