Fintiri Pledges Support for Establishment of Medicine, Engineering Faculties at ADSU.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has reaffirmed the Adamawa State Government’s commitment to supporting the establishment of Faculties of Medicine and Engineering at the Adamawa State University (ADSU), Mubi, while also improving infrastructure across the institution.

The Governor made this known while receiving the university’s management team during a courtesy visit at the Government House in Yola. He assured the delegation that the government will provide all necessary support to actualize the expansion drive.

Governor Fintiri also revealed plans to install a five-megawatt solar-powered electricity system for the university, with backing from the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), aimed at addressing the institution’s growing energy needs.

He challenged the university management to be proactive and innovative in addressing the institution’s internal challenges. He further assured them of the state government’s continued commitment to research funding and the welfare of staff.

Reflecting on his administration’s ongoing contributions to the university, Governor Fintiri noted the successful collaborations with partners such as TETFund. He added that the state’s efforts, in partnership with development agencies, will soon resolve the water supply issues affecting the university.

Earlier in his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of ADSU, Professor Augustine Clement, expressed his gratitude to the Governor for the trust placed in him to lead the institution. He highlighted that since his appointment, several policy reforms have been implemented to enhance learning, improve staff welfare, and promote student development.

Professor Clement also revealed that the university, in collaboration with its governing council, is working toward the introduction of specialized courses including Medicine and Engineering.

He commended Governor Fintiri for his financial support to the university, promising that the funds provided would be judiciously utilized for the advancement of the institution.

The Vice Chancellor also mentioned ongoing challenges facing the university, including high energy costs, water scarcity, inadequate firefighting equipment—citing a recent fire incident—as well as limited accommodation and poor road infrastructure on the new campus.

In their contributions, Dr. Godwin Boniface, Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at ADSU, and Mrs. Bifa, Chairperson of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), thanked Governor Fintiri for appointing an internal candidate as Vice Chancellor. They praised the Governor’s dedication to strengthening the university’s leadership and future.
