Military Launches New Sector Command to Bolster Adamawa’s Defence

In a decisive response to growing security threats, the Nigerian Armed Forces is set to establish a new sector command in Mubi, Adamawa State - a strategic step designed to reinforce military presence and crush insurgent advances.

The bold initiative was revealed on Friday by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, during a courtesy visit to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri at the Government House in Yola.

General Musa said the move would include a full rehabilitation of the Mubi military barracks to serve as the operational base for the new command. He noted that the effort targets rising infiltration attempts by non-state actors, especially through Hong Local Government Area.

“We will operationalize and strengthen the command, especially as non-state actors are increasingly infiltrating through Hong,” General Musa said. “We must decisively deal with these insurgents to restore peace.”

The Defence Chief warned that insurgents, including Boko Haram and ISWAP elements, are actively seeking to establish footholds in Adamawa. He stressed the importance of preempting their efforts with a fortified military presence.

General Musa also emphasized the role of the Nigerian Air Force in providing swift responses to security breaches. He praised the relative calm in Adamawa, attributing it to Governor Fintiri’s sustained collaboration and support for the armed forces.

In response, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri hailed the military’s plan to strengthen operations in Mubi. He said the new sector command aligns with the state’s efforts to protect lives and property.

“When you succeed in the field, my people sleep peacefully,” Fintiri remarked. “This new sector command in Mubi will go a long way in tackling insecurity head-on.”

The governor recalled recent deadly attacks in Madagali and Hong, stressing the urgency of action. He assured the military of his administration’s full backing — from logistics to grassroots intelligence.

Fintiri advocated for the regular rotation of military officers across Adamawa’s flashpoints to enhance efficiency and operational morale. He also spoke of the ongoing integration of local hunters into the broader security framework.

“We’re not just building infrastructure; we’re empowering our local hunters to stand with the military and defend our communities,” the governor said.

Governor Fintiri closed by appealing for more boots on the ground, especially around the volatile Hong axis, reaffirming the state government’s resolve to collaborate with the military in safeguarding Adamawa’s future.
