Failure at Bayelsa Guber: PDP Youths Blame Party Leadership
The failure of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
to clichéd the governorship seat in Bayelsa State has been blamed on the party
leadership.
The PDP youths, under the aegis of PDP South
South Youth Vanguard, also blamed Governor Seriake Dickson’s highhandedness for
the failure
The PDP youths, in a statement by its
National Chairman, James Efe Akpofure, alleged that monies exchanged hands
between the party leadership and the governor over his choice of candidate.
The youth further alleged that monies also
exchanged hands between the party leadership, Timi Alaibe and Ken Koko over the
party ticket.
The group noted that Bayelsa people were not
happy with Governor Dickson's decision to feature a candidate that is not
popular among the people.
The PDP Youth Vanguard added that the
decision of the governor on his choice of candidate was selfish, adding that if
Dickson had listen to the voice of the people, things would have been
different.
Aside blaming Dickson, the group also blamed
former President Goodluck Jonathan for anti-party, adding that no matter the
issue, the governor, the party leadership and Jonathan would have found a way
to resolve it.
The group said: "The failure of PDP to
win Bayelsa State governorship election should be blamed on the party
leadership led by Prince Uche Secondus.
"Governor Dickson should also be blamed
for his highhandedness. He failed to listen to the people. He brought an
unpopular candidate, who does not have what it takes to win the election."
"The role of former President Jonathan
didn't help matters; rather, it escalated the situation. The alleged romance of
Jonathan and Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike with All Progressives Congress
(APC) Stakeholders and Minister of Petroleum, Timipre Sylva was also a factor
in the failure of PDP to win the election. Dickson alone should not be blamed
for the failure of the party.
The Youth Vanguard, has, however, called for
the dissolution of the Prince Uche Secondus-led National Working Committee
(NWC) of the party and also called for National Executive Committee (NEC)
meeting to address the crisis in the party once and for all in the interest of
party members across the country.
