ORTOM PRESENTS N189b 2020 BUDGET TO STATE ASSEMBLY

Governor Samuel Ortom, Tuesday, presented the 2020 Appropriation Bill of One Hundred and Eighty-Nine Billion, Four Hundred and Eighty-Three Million, Five Hundred and Eleven Thousand and Twenty-Five Naira (N189,483,511,025) to the Benue State House of Assembly.

Named "Budget of Advancement, Growth and Development", the Governor stated that his administration would ensure adequate provision for programmes that would promote growth and development of the State".

The 2020 Benue State Budget has Recurrent Expenditure of N114.5 billion out of which N50.6 billion is allocated for personnel cost, while N63.9 billion represents the estimated expenditure on overhead cost.

According to the Appropriation Bill, N74.9 billion would go for capital projects.

Governor Ortom also presented a Supplementary Budget of Seven Billion, Seventy-Five Million, Nine Hundred and Twelve Thousand, Two Hundred and Thirty-Three Naira (N7,075,912,233) to the Assembly.

He congratulated the Speaker and members of the 9th Assembly on their victories at the 2019 polls and expressed hope that the State Executive Council and Legislature would continue to work in the interest of the State.

Governor Ortom reassured Benue people of his administration's commitment to selfless service.

"As we are all aware, 2019 is a very significant year in our democratic journey and for my administration, as it marks the end of my first term in office and the commencement of the second and final term. It is therefore a year full of re-kindled hope for our people and our State for a better tomorrow and for a future full of opportunities, a future where Benue people will work together for the prosperity and development of the State and where equal opportunity, fairness, justice and equity will thrive", he stated.

Responding, Speaker of the Benue State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Titus Uba, urged heads of ministries, departments and agencies of government to appear before the various House Standing Committees to defend their budget proposals to allow for quick passage, describing the presentation as the earliest since 1999.
