Abia inaugurates Committee on identity card registration

Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has inaugurated the Committee On The Enrollment Of Abia Residents Into The National Identity Data Base to correct the wrong population figure ascribed to the State during the last Census exercise and obtain a reliable data base for accurate planning and governance.

The Governor who inaugurated the Committee at the Government House, Umuahia charged members to ensure that the enrollment of citizens is effectively carried out in the State because of its importance in the overall development of the State.

The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, PhD, who is also the Chairman of the Committee, while calling on Abians to get registered at the nearest National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) office to collect their National Identity Card to enable them reap the benefits while Government is equipped to plan in accordance to the data base.

Governor Ikpeazu charged the members of the committee, drawn from heads of relevant Ministries and critical Stakeholders, to embark on enlightenment campaign to mobilize Abians and residents to get registered to enable them get the desired result.

He explained that the state Government‘s decision to collaborate with NIMC and BIOSEC in addition to incorporating Stakeholders and relevant officials in Government was because of the importance of the exercise and urged them to immediately convene a kick off meeting,

Responding on behalf of the Chairman of the Committee and the State Deputy Governor, the Manager Of BIOSEC, Dr Agu Osoka expresses appreciation to the Government for creating an enabling environment for them to function and promised that the Committee will deliver on their mandate of ensuring that the State and Federal Government obtain reliable data for planning.

The Governor named other members of the Committee to include the SSG, Bar Chris Ezem,, Commissioner For Finance, Dr Aham Uko ,Commissioner For Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, that of LG and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Gabriel Onyedinefu, Budget and Planning, Chief DK Uduma, Manager of BIOSEC, Dr Agu Osoka, State Coordinator of NIMC, Mr Loveday Ogbonna and NIMC Government House Liaison Officer, Mrs Gladwill Osoagbaka.
