Gov. Fintiri Requests FG Construct a Buffer Dam in Adamawa to Reduce Flooding

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has called on the Federal Government to construct a buffer dam in Dasin Hausa community of Adamawa state to help mitigate the recurring flood challenges faced by the people.

Governor Fintiri made this appeal during a meeting with the DG of NEMA, Alhaji Mustafa Habib Ahmed, in the Government House, Yola.

He highlighted the devastating effects of flooding in Adamawa State, which has resulted in the displacement of thousands of people, destruction of farmlands, and loss of lives and property.

The Governor emphasized the urgent need for a buffer dam to control the flow of water during heavy rainfall and prevent the overflow of rivers. He stated that the construction of such a dam would help to mitigate the impact of flooding and protect the lives of the residents.

He told them that the state planned to build more warehouses apart from the current one that is under construction inside Government House.

Responding, the Director General of NEMA, Alhaji Habib Ahmed, commiserated with the Government and people of Adamawa State over the loss of lives as a result of the boat mishaps and floods in this year’s wet season.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of a gift to the Governor by the DG of NEMA.
