Bauchi Gov't Initiates New Ideas To Tackle Fraud In It's Payroll
The Bauchi State Executive Council on Wednesday deliberated extensively on the fraudulent activities going on in the state's payroll with a view to ensuring sanity in its salaries and pensions administration in the state.
Addressing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Bala Mohammed, the State's Deputy Governor, Senator Baba Tela said a new software system has been introduced in a bid to find lasting solutions and bring to an end, challenges in the system.
Senator Baba Tela who is also the Chairman of the high powered committee on salary and pensions reforms said the new system is expected to contribute significantly in minimizing fraudulent activities in the payroll.
According to him, so far, the committee out of the seventy five Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the state, it uploaded over fifty three MDAs into the new programme.
"During Meeting, the council discussed on the interim report submitted by the high powered committee on salary issues and you know for our Governor to execute legacy projects, we must assist him to block leakages in the payroll."
"As a committee, we held series of meetings and we created sub committee to interfere with the system introduced and came up with new approach by looking at the salary structure and pensions the state government is paying."
The Deputy Governor said the fraudulent activities going on in the payroll affected the level of development in the state and stressed the need for all hands to be on deck to address the menace for the overall growth and development of Bauchi State.
Senator Baba Tela said as part of the effort of the committee to block leakages in the system, during the payment of salary for the month of March it has discovered no fewer than 715 civil servants with substantial cases of fraudulent activities.
“From some of the manipulations that was discovered by the committee recently their salaries had been stopped for one reason or the other. We have their lists and the reason for stopping every salary has been clearly provided."
On his part, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Mohammed Sabiu Baba said as part of the state government's effort to address challenges in salary and pensions administration, it has so far made remarkable progress especially in the achievements recorded by the high powered committee on salary reforms.
“Since we came as a government, there has been the hue and cry that there are many ghost workers in the state payroll, the intention is to address that issue squarely as there are concrete evidence of ghost workers and so many malpractices."
