Gov Udom Emmanuel is Committed To Akwa Palm Reactivation - Frank Archibong

The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for  Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Frank Archibong, has stated that Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel is committed to ensuring the reactivation of the moribund Akwa Palm Industry for a full scale operation.

Mr. Archibong, who noted that major beneficiaries of the project are those from host communities, charged stakeholders  across the three Local Government of Esit Eket, Urue/Offong and Mbo, to collaborate and support government efforts to ensure the project is excellently implemented as planned.


In their separate submissions, Chairman of Esit Eket Local Government Council and ALGON Chairman of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Iniobong Robson, his Mbo and Urueofong counterparts assured of working together to ensure a peaceful atmosphere for investors and engaged labours to operate. 


Mr. Robson, said he is optimistic that the project will enabled over 5000 job opportunities, stating that it will be the highest employer of labour if fully reactivated.


Earlier, the Executive Director of Akwa Ibom State Agricultural Investment Company  (AKIPOC), Pst. Umo Eno, whose office is responsible for  the reactivation plan, reiterated that Governor Udom Emmanuel is determined to Industrialize the State. Pst. Eno, who also doubles as Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources in the State, while briefing stakeholders, village heads and youth Presidents today, Tuesday, 20th April, 2021, in Uyo, informed them of government readiness to fully reactivate the palm Plantation to further create job opportunities as encapsulated in the Completion Agenda of the Governor.


He explained that the project is a Private sector partnership initiative where youths from host communities will be trained in diverse skills to enable them build and develop themselves for self reliance.


Eno noted that the First phase which was managed by Tidal Foods Limited was an intervention process to prepare the ground for full takeoff. "The rebranded Akwa Palm is a Private sector partnership initiative. There will be a tank Farm/Mill; the Mill will help in expanding the plantation for Future benefits for host communities and as well attract global attention". He stated. 


"The former Akwa Palm plantation has been rebranded and changed to Dakkada Oil Palm Limited. What is required for full implementation to begin is enabling environment in collaboration with government and shareholders for the smooth running and success of the project".

The Commissioner, further disclosed that the existing palm fruits in the plantation have outgrown limit and as such, will be pulled down while planting of new nursery, training of personel, setting up of security and Administrative quarters and a laboratory as designed.

"The rebranded Akwa Palm is a Private sector partnership initiative which will have a functional modern tank Farm/Mill with global attention for the general benefits of host communities". 


The meeting was attended by respective village heads, youth Presidents and the Clan head of Eket Offong, His Highness, Etteidung Ikot.
