Bauchi Governor Sets Up Microfinance Institution To Tackle Poverty

...Distributes cash, empowerment items in Dambam/Misau local Governments 

Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State has distributed cash, empowerment items worth N150 million for beneficiaries in Damban and Misau Local Government Areas of the state.

Speaking at the occasion, the Governor said the State Government has set up Microfinance Institution Building Program to compliment the ongoing Kaura Economic Empowerment Programme.

He said the Microfinance Institution Building Program is to develop and strengthen Microfinance Institutions and establish linkages among financial institutions in order to create a viable and sustainable microfinance system.

He noted that, the program is to enhance access of the poor to financial services to boost the productivity of micro and small scale enterprises thereby reducing poverty.

According to him, the beneficiaries of the programme are small holder farmers, craftsmen, petty traders, women and physically challenged and will be implemented in 323 wards spread across the 20 Local Governments of the State with an estimated 6,460 groups.

"I want to reiterate my appeal to the beneficiaries of the Kaura Economic Empowerment Programme to make good use of the opportunity by properly managing the cash and items given to them to boost their economic status and assist others who may not have access to the largesse."

"On our part as a Government, we will continue to explore more ways and means of poverty alleviation. This would include partnership with private organizations and well to do public spirited individuals."

He declared that the State Government will continue to deploy its managerial competence in the management of the scare resources to ensure that, the majority of the people of the state benefit from various poverty alleviation intervention initiatives.


The Governor therefore assured the people of the state that his administration would not relent in its effort to see to the upliftment of their socio-economic well-being.
