Ikpeazu Mourns The Death Of Col. Anthony Obi, Former Military Administrator Of Abia State

The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has received with a deep sense of grief, the news of the passage of a former Military Administrator of Abia State, Late Col. Anthony Obi (Rtd).

The late Col. Obi died on the 1st day of January, 2022 at the age of 70.

He was appointed Military Administrator of Abia State in August 1998 and was in charge until May 29th 1999. He managed the last stages of the  transition to civilian rule and had  the honour of handing over to the former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu. He was Military Administrator of Osun State prior to his transfer to Abia State where he took over from Col. Moses Fasanya.

Governor Ikpeazu describes the Late Col. Obi as an officer and a gentleman whose career in the Nigerian Army witnessed several successes.

According to the Governor "Late Rtd Col. Obi's place in the history of Abia State is assured. Fate and destiny positioned him to play a critical role in our evolution into a democratic society. He had the exceptional privilege of being the last Military Officer to govern Abia State and also to hand over to a democratically elected Governor. We will always remember him".

The late Col Obi was from Akpugo in Nkanu West LGA of Enugu State. 

The Governor urges his family to find strength in the purposeful life he lived and in his indelible contributions to our nation, especially as an officer of the Nigerian Army.

Governor Ikpeazu, on behalf of his family, the Government and People of Abia State send his deepest sympathies the family of the Late Col Obi while praying God to grant his soul eternal rest.
